Having studied a certain improvement, you can return to your dead carcass (more precisely, to the wreckage of a starship) to pick up the lost junk, but until then, after each death you will only have accumulated money, but everything else that was acquired during an unsuccessful attempt through back-breaking labor disappears. And these are various resources necessary for repairing ship systems and for creating items, and valuable things like new “guns” and sensors (they are installed on the go), and all sorts of shield amplifiers.

The money must be spent immediately – patiently accumulating it between attempts will not work, because the wallet is reset to zero with each subsequent departure from the hangar. If you have a lot of finances, you can buy a new ship. In addition to the standard, initially issued universal starship, there are two more classes – fast and fragile (in fact, an analogue of a thief), who can teleport and hide, as well as powerful and slow (“tank”, respectively).

And even with a very interesting plot, designed to shed light on what happened to our main character. He communicates with his partner, the ship’s AI, periodically sees strange memories, finds out that he is a clone, meets old friends, and now enemies. In other words, there is plenty of intrigue. “Lore” is also well developed: the local codex is constantly updated with new information about factions, characters, locations and events unfolding in the world Everspace.
Space shooter
It is clear that many things familiar to the genre Elite-there are no figurative games here. You can’t chat with the same merchants or go to the bar at the station to pick up a task, there is no news feed reporting that a race of some talking frogs has declared war on intelligent stones, there are no reports on price changes for certain goods, where and what is more profitable to sell, and where to buy. Trade in general is extremely primitive. And all quests come down to tests like “accumulate 5,000 credits for an attempt” or “kill 10 ships of such and such a race”. Which, however, is more than usual for bagels, and for many space games too..
In terms of control and behavior of the ship, there are no comparisons with the same Elite: Dangerous, Naturally, there can be no question – here is the closest Freelancer, although in Everspace more dynamics, dodges decide a lot in battles, and in general this is such a space shooter. Although not primitive: there is fuel and energy consumption, the ability to turn on the afterburner, move in six planes, switch between different types of weapons tailored to your tasks – first demolish shields, for example.
